05 Oct Will They Stay?
If you build it, they will come...
“If you build it, they will come” is the theme in the movie Field of Dreams and may also pertain to your website. But will they stay? If your website doesn’t have the functionality that customers are looking for, they are likely to go elsewhere. That’s why at VSG Commerce™ (VSG), if a client requests something and it doesn’t exist yet, then we build it. Such was the case with the subscription process that our client, Blue Buffalo, requested for their business.
Blue Buffalo, based in Wilton, CT, is the nation’s leading natural pet food company, and provides natural foods and treats for dogs and cats under its BLUE Natural Veterinary Diet as well as other nationally preferred non-therapeutic formulas like BLUE Life Protection Formula, BLUE Wilderness, BLUE Basics and BLUE Freedom.
Blue Buffalo partnered with VSG Commerce to design, develop and implement the Oracle Commerce Cloud solution for their bluevet.com site. The site includes three different user types (pet parents, clinics, and staff) and spans both B2B and B2C experiences. Users have pets, pets belong to clinics, clinics have staff, and all users can order products with various discounts applied. Adding to the complexity was the fact that pet parent orders require approval by the clinic users before orders can be fulfilled.
One of the key strategic objectives of the project was to utilize scheduled ordering functionality, or in other words – subscriptions. The out-of-the-box functionality for subscriptions was invoice only and our client needed a credit card option. The VSG team created the desired functionality to allow Blue Buffalo to meet their customers’ needs.
Other unique features of this project included:
• The ability to submit a scheduled order immediately • The establishment of custom approval logic enabling users to purchase without approval for 1 year
